From Rationalization to Results
November 2009
"Everyone else does it."
“I’m sure nobody will care."
“We really need this.”
“My boss does it."
“Nobody will even notice."
These are just some of the common
rationalizations people use for not doing what's right.
Regardless of what one might feel justifies their decision
making process, we all have a responsibility to act ethically.
This means:
- Working together as a
part of your company’s team
- Providing the highest
quality goods and services
- Meeting and exceeding
your daily duties.
Now that you know your
responsibilities, you must carry out these responsibilities with
RESPECT. Respect includes behavior such as:
- Treating
employees, customers, and other associates with
courtesy and dignity.
- Creating an environment
of trust, teamwork and tolerance.
- Using company property
and time effectively and efficiently-never for personal use.
- Following company
procedures and policies that exist to protect the well-being of
all involved.
But what about your RESULTS? A common misconception among business professionals is to assume
that the “ends justifies the means.” In other words, if you
carry out your day-to-day responsibilities, it doesn’t matter
how you get them done. We know that everyone is expected
to get results for their company. However, as ethical
professionals, we expect you to get the same results in an
honorable, legal, and moral way.
